Clean Up Washington

An overwhelming number of our politicians and high ranking bureaucrats in DC are lawyers. This fact is the link in the cause and effect correlation between the government and corruption.

In the real world lawyers are a sometime necessity and not an everyday reality. That is how it should be in government too. A simple solution, don’t elect lawyers to public office, or they will continue to get their share up front.

Shakespeare had a great idea about how to make the world a better place in regard to lawyers. I’ll let you look that one up for yourself.

Peace be with you, and thanks for reading.

The Beatles and Their Logo

How the Beatles got their famous logo

The path to the iconic Beatles logo was a long and winding road in which everything came together, with a little help from some friends.

How the Beatles got their famous logo

Vinyl Rewind tells the story of how Ringo Starr and the other three dudes got their iconic logo and, oh boy, it’s a doozy.

Basically, for the band’s first few years, there was no Beatles logo. It was never featured in any of the band’s original albums recorded in the U.K.

The logo started its life on the bass drum of Starr’s Ludwig drum kit in April 1963, three years after John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Starr got together in Liverpool and formed the most influential music group of all time.

Starr got this Ludwig set from a shop, Drum City, on Shaftesbury Avenue in London. Founded by a guy called Ivor Arbiter in 1929, the shop was a popular destination for jazz drummers. Arbiter later recalled the encounter with a certain “Ringo, Schmingo, whatever his name was, at that time I certainly hadn’t heard of The Beatles.”

But when Starr entered the shop alongside the band’s manager, Brian Epstein, The Beatles were already quite popular, having released their debut studio album–Please Please Me–the month before. They weren’t known around the world yet, but the single that gave the album its name became No. 1 on the U.K. charts, and the album itself was No. 1 for 30 weeks, which was unprecedented at the time.

Perhaps that’s why, despite Arbiter’s later claims, he agreed to give Starr his last £238 Ludwig Downbeat kit in oyster black pearl finish for free as requested by Epstein, with the condition that the band keep the Ludwig brand on the front. Apparently, Arbiter had an exclusive distribution deal with the brand, and he wanted to give it some publicity.

Epstein agreed–as long as the band’s name also appeared prominently. Arbiter then proceeded to sketch a logo on a paper, making the “B” bigger than the rest of the letters, and extending the “T” in the way we all recognize today.

Then, for £5, Epstein paid Drum City to paint the logo on the bass drum. Arbiter gave the logo to a local sign painter, Eddie Stokes, who finalized the logo.

The logo stayed in that form until a performance at Paris’s Olympia Theater on February 4, 1964. Some people say that Starr has the original drum head, while others claim that McCartney has it.

The next logo, used for the first time in the drum kit at famous U.S. appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show on February 9, 1964, was slightly different and more powerful:

The logo, painted again by Stokes, occupied most of the drum’s face and used a bolder typeface. That logo was used for the band’s first U.S. tour. After that, the logo evolved slightly seven times between 1963 and 1967. This was the final version of the logo in the last Ludwig black pearl drum kit that Starr used.

Later, during the filming of Let It Be, Starr got his last Beatles skin, set on a 22-inch Remo Weather Master with a Ludwig sticker on top.

The funny thing is that, having never appeared on any of the band’s original albums covers, a version of The Beatles’s logo that combined all the drum heads was only registered as a trademark by The Beatles company Apple Corps in the 1990s. This is about wringing profit out of every piece of Beatles-related property but, after learning that the logo was made virtually for free on top of a free drum kit, maybe they should have just, uh, let it be.

Twitter, Facebook, Netflix Imploding – Stocks Down 30 to 40 Percent

While their competitive advantage propelled them to global dominance in the period from 2005 to 2016, leaving all challengers in their wake, Google, Facebook, Youtube and Twitter, like most high growth firms had the luxury of enjoying powerful expansions, so they focused on the competition, not internal management issues. So as one would expect, they continue to pay minimal attention to internal factors such as organization structure, management systems and corporate culture. And because these firms have never experienced “a recession” or a prolonged period of weakness, their management teams have never been tested – remember when the Facebook crisis hit in 2016 and Mark Zuckerberg disappeared, keeping investors and market experts (and even his staff), in the dark and confused? Any good corporate communication department would have leadership in front of cameras calming down the public and investors. The lack of experience demonstrated by Mr Zuckerberg was obvious.

A major Tech Recession looms as top FAANGs and Tech names have fallen for 3 weeks now. Twitter stock has declined 44%, Facebook down 31%, Electronic Arts down 36%, and Netflix down 23% from their recent highs. A pullback of 20 percent means these stocks are officially in bearish territory.

So the powerful expansion for a decade has given these firms, some clearly lacking the key skills to manage in a downturn, a false sense of security, and a tone of arrogance that comes with winning, and winning. These firms, through stock options and other financial incentives have kept staff, especially at the senior management level – Facebook`s senior managers have been at the firm an average of 9.5 years, better than the average of S&P 500 firms which CEOs are on the boards for an average of 6.8 years. But there seems to be changes taking place and as rapid expansion fades, these firms, all living and playing together after starting up in a 50 kilometer piece of real estate in the Bay Area, will be forced to view each other differently as they fight for customers and talent in the future. Their downfall will be accelerated by lower growth, Chinese completion and the market shocks in the past 3 weeks. Tech is being decimated.

In no way, shape of form are these social media companies guided by senior managers who have decades of experience in market or industry recessions. Most have never navigated a company through a bear market.

Twitter has lost 7 of the top 10 members of the executive team since the start of 2016. Snapchat and Uber have lost senior executives with Uber suffering an exodus of managers in a 2016 scandal. And more recently, Jan Koum, the CEO of WhatsApp, left in April, along with the other founding partner of WhatsApp, who seemed happy to walk away from $850 million, reportedly due to disagreements with his new bosses on how client information is handled (a theme that now runs through this industry). Also, keep in mind that some engineers are leaving or are asking to be transferred to other parts or entities of these mega-firms. Data privacy concerns have dominated discussions that are focused on departures from most of these firms.

Again, one must question the ability of these companies to weather the storm of internal pressure from a cultural shift – the monoculture from the Bay Area will, in the end force these firms to change or lose valuable employees. More importantly, the industry is moving into recession and at the same time will be under pressure to embrace free speech as the White House leans on them.

The Destruction of Traction Silicon Valley Globalist Elite has arrived.

California verus Texas – in the past 10 years, due to taxes (13.2 percent for those making over $250,000 in California, zero in Texas for state taxes), overregulation and an explosion in poverty, and collapse in the education system in California, over 9,000 companies have left California for Texas, Florida, Arizona and a host of other states. Lower taxes and easy startup costs make Texas and Florida ideal destinations for new businesses. In short, the San Francisco Bay Area seeing an exodus. Peter Thiel, the conservative founder of PayPal and a personal advisor to the US President Donald Trump has left San Francisco in this exodus.

CEO Zuckerberg sees the problems within his companies – many having been accused of inhibiting free speech by firing those who reject group think or San Francisco Bay left wing politics. So Mr Zuckerberg has opened his company for government oversight. The values of major social media companies are not the values of free speech – and public now understands this.

In sum, the most recent Tech recession that started three weeks ago, cultural changes from within as more employees do not tolerate the groupthink required by these firms and the continued pressure from the Trump White House will force some of these companies to suffer severe damage.

And while these companies start to break apart, they will be met with stiff competition from new Chinese companies that may, just may, embrace free speech, taking market share in a strong and non-stop challenge to the inexperienced leaders of Twitter, Facebook and Google – prepare for the tech and social media recession.

The Leftist Double Standard

Bill Clinton’s Sexual Assault Allegations Are ‘Different’, Hillary Says

The numerous allegations of sexual harassment levied against him mean President Trump is a reprehensible monster, according to Hillary Clinton, but when it comes to similar claims made about her husband, former President Bill Clinton, it’s a different story.

That’s what Hillary Clinton told CNN’s Christiane Amanpour during an interview Tuesday when Amanpour prodded her about the allegations facing her husband and how she squares supporting him with her criticisms of men like Trump and Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

The difference-maker, according to Clinton, is the fact that the allegations facing her husband were thoroughly investigated by a federal prosecutor.

Of course, her response completely glosses over the fact that not only were the claims against Kavanaugh investigated by the FBI during last week’s follow-up background check probe – but Kavanaugh has faced numerous background check investigations over the years before taking jobs in the White House and then, more recently, as a federal judge.

“Well, there’s a very significant difference and that is the intense, long-lasting, partisan investigation that was conducted in the 90s,” Clinton said. “If the Republicans, starting with President Trump on down want a comparison, they should welcome such an investigation themselves.”

But that’s not entirely true. While Clinton’s sexual misconduct involving Monica Lewinsky and Paula Jones was investigated back in the 1990s, Juanita Broaddrick’s claim that Clinton raped her back when he was serving as attorney general of Arkansas has never been closely examined.

Still, Clinton insisted that her husband’s ability to “survive” these allegations through multiple political races is a testament to how Democrats must be “tough” in the face of Republican opposition.

“Bill had to be incredibly strong, first to be elected, then to be reelected, and to survive,” Clinton told CNN. “He really believes Democrats have to be tougher and have to stand up to the bullying and intimidation.”

And Democrats need to be do a better job of combating Republicans – even if it means destroying the life of an innocent man – because there’s no point being “civil” with a political party that “wants to destroy everything that you stand for,” Clinton said.

“You cannot be civil with a political party that wants to destroy what you stand for, what you care about. That’s why I believe if we are fortunate enough to win back the House and/or the Senate, that’s when civility can start again. But until then, the only thing that the Republicans seem to recognize and respect is strength.”

So, Hillary, was it “civil” of her husband to ogle the backside of pop singer Ariana Grande during her performance at Aretha Franklin’s memorial service back in August?
