The National Debt

The national debt is now above 22 trillion dollars. In the last fiscal quarter  the US government spent one trillion dollars. The federal government spent 1/22 of the entire national debt in one quarter.

The national debt has been accumulating for decades to get to 22 trillion. I am starting to think that the real crisis with the government is their deficit spending. Spending way more money than they bring in. The amount of taxes coming into the federal government has broken many records over the recent quarters.

The bottom line here is, the government is too big and needs to be downsized in a significant way. The alternative is raising taxes on businesses and the rest of us who still pay into the system. That will shrink the private economy and cause the markets to lose value.

This excessive federal spending is slowly killing America. More taxes will be their answer, not less federal spending.

Now it has been announced that the federal employees laid off during the shutdown will be paid for staying home.

It is easy to be generous with other people’s money. The federal government is being generous with your children’s  and grandchildren’s futures.  They will end up paying for this debt in one way or another. Either higher taxes or less benefits and services, and probably both.
